This morning as I was opening up my blinds, it was still dark outside. Instead of the light coming inside, my light was going outside. Immediately the Light of the World popped into my head.
Jesus said He was the Light of the World. John 8: 12 records, “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” But he also said we were the Light of the World. In Matthew 5:14-16 Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” This image of opening the blinds was just a perfect visual for me!
There is a sharp contrast between dark and light. And not only is Jesus the Light in the Darkness, he calls us, His followers, to be too!
But guys, the world loves their sin. People prefer the comforts of their sins- lying, cheating, gossiping, slandering, or even misusing food, drugs, sex, social media while seeking self-gain. “And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil (John 3:19).”
As believers we are called to shine His Light! We are called to be His witnesses. It is our job as Christians to show those in darkness the joys of living in the Light! Living in peace and bearing fruits of love, peace, patience, joy, gentleness, self-control far outweighs the temporary satisfaction of sin.
Yes, we all mess up. Yes, we all sin. That does not disqualify us, but gives us more reason to be a walking testimony to the Light. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41). Don’t let any slip up make you think you are unworthy. You are called to shine His light!
We are living in darkness- sin and brokenness fill this world. Jesus said, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
We can have peace in the midst of the trial and tribulations… even when are flesh gets in the way. Jesus is with us! He alone is our peace!
So shine that light! Let Him work through you!
